Everything was as it had always been, and yet, the night before, I had seen something in my parents’ faces that hadn’t been there before. #4 The morning after the invasion, I saw my neighbors celebrating with German soldiers. I did not understand what was happening. I was 15 years old, and I had a strong feeling that our lives were no longer our own, but in the hands of a deadly enemy.

Born and raised in nearby Moreland (I reside in Peachtree City, Georgia), Grizzard had a major influence on my writing style. This is my sixth self-published book; one of them sold so well a publisher came a-calling tobuy the rights to it. Now I’d like to take my writing to the next level. That’s where you come in. So I ran away from the South to the North as a young girl because I wanted my freedom and rights to make my own choices. But when I return back to Memphis Tennessee I brought back with me a ferocity that is unmatched in my family. See my story is a true story about my Negro family in the South. Because I have grow past this slavery and racial white conditions that I was born under in Mississippi at my time of birth, and now I have produce life myself as a Creator on earth, and some of the white peoples have change in the South a lot by initial conditions.

These poems are about my life experience. They are a glimpse into my journey of reclaiming my life. I began writing poetry as a way of releasing stress, loneliness, and sadness. When I moved to Calgary I had no one to talked to. I felt very alone and out of place, and I had no idea what I was going to do with myself. All of my friends were in Montréal, along with everything I had ever owned. I only had five hundred dollars in my wallet, and two suitcases full of toys, clothes, and important documents....
