Introduction to Psychology Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
"In contemplating a revision of our Psychology: a Factual Textbook, we turned for criticisms and suggestions to the psychologists who were known to be using the book. Very soon it became evident, with their replies in hand for analysis, that something more than a revision would be necessary to satisfy the needs of many teachers. Our aim in this new text has been to respond to the temper of the times without losing the authority that comes with multiple authorship by experts, and equally without diminishing, we hope, the seriousness of the scientific approach to the problems of psychology. This new book is so much more than a revision of the old that we have given it a new title. In it we have turned the old book hind part to, beginning with the consideration of conduct and ending with the treatment of perception. The book is considerably enlarged, with some new chapters and some new collaborators. As was the case in the first book, these expert authors have formulated in the first instance the content of the chapters, but thereafter we as editors have freely exercised our right to alter their texts in the interests of unity in the whole." Introduction to Psychology Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
This book is designed to help students organize their thinking about psychology at a conceptual level. The focus on behaviour and empiricism has produced a text that is better organized, has fewer chapters, and is somewhat shorter than many of the leading books. The beginning of each section includes learning objectives; throughout the body of each section are key terms in bold followed by their definitions in italics; key takeaways, and exercises and critical thinking activities end each section.

Introduction to Psychology for Medical Students Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Introduction to Psychology for Medical Students deals with general psychology aimed for medical undergraduate students. The book discusses psychology and its relevance to medicine, particularly on the relation of the mind and the treatment of physical diseases. The authors explain perceiving and imagining; and how perception is dependent on past experience or learning, and the effects of motivation and of mood on perception. The authors also discuss abstract and concrete thinking, emotional use of words, unconscious thinking, creative thinking, learning, and remembering. The unconscious process of forgetting of unwelcome memories is repression, while consciously trying to forget them is suppression. The authors also explain normal conflict, frustration, and reaction to stress including the physical aspects of emotions causing increases in blood pressure, in adrenaline flow, or in blood glucose level. The authors also discuss the hypnotic states, individual susceptibility, the induction of hypnotic states, and their clinical applications. This book is intended for medical undergraduate students, as well as to general readers interested in psychology and human behavior.

Introduction to Scientific Psychology Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
We humans are faced with an interesting problem: That which we think we un derstand the most-our own behavior-we probably understand the least. On the eve of a new millennium. the planet is beset by a host of problems that are. for the most part. caused by human behavior. Ironically. although it seems that the greatest impact of our behavior is on the planet and its other inhabitants. we may actually be threatening our own future the most. For example. we have caused untold harm to the air we breathe. to the water we drink. and. by exten sion. to much of the food we eat. More important perhaps. we have created a so ciety in which. among other things. many people are anxious and depressed. young women starve themselves. and alcohol and cigarette use are responsible for hundreds of thousands of cases of illness and death every year. And humans still murder one another at an astounding rate. while at the same time continu ing to affirm the value of human life. At a time when it is critical that our chil dren become educated. more and more children are not learning the basic skills they will need to think logically so that they can begin to solve the world's problems. The question may be not "Can the planet survive?" but. rather. "Can we humans survive and change our own destructive actions?" Although many scholars. philosophers.

Handbook for Teaching Introductory Psychology Book in PDF, Epub and Kindle
Like its predecessors, Volume III of the Handbook for Teaching Introductory Psychology provides introductory psychology instructors with teaching ideas and activities that can immediately be put into practice in the classroom. It contains an organized collection of articles from Teaching of Psychology (TOP), the official journal of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, Division 2 of the American Psychological Association. Volume III contains 89 articles from TOP that have not been included in other volumes. Another distinction between this volume and its predecessors is its emphasis on testing and assessment. The book is divided into two sections. Section One, "Issues and Approaches in Teaching Introductory Psychology," contains 52 articles on critical issues, such as: how to approach the course; understanding students' interests, perceptions, and motives; students' existing knowledge of psychology (including their misconceptions); a comparison of introductory textbooks and tips on how to evaluate them; test questions and student factors affecting exam performance; an overview of different forms of feedback; giving extra credit; and how to deal with academic dishonesty. Section Two consists of 37 articles that present demonstrations, class and laboratory projects, and other techniques to enhance teaching and learning in both the introductory, as well as advanced courses in the discipline. This section is organized so as to parallel the order of topics found in most introductory psychology textbooks. Intended for academicians who teach the introductory psychology course and/or oversee grad assistants who teach the course, all royalties of the book go directly to the Society for the Teaching of Psychology to promote its activities to further improve the teaching of psychology.
